Rosario Aguilar

OWNER/DIRECTOR OF TRAINING

Owner/Director of Training Rosario Rios Aguilar has been being coaching CrossFit for 7 years, but her athletic career goes back much further. Her passion for athletics began at age 4, when she was growing up in a "jungle-like" town in southern Mexico. Rosario went on to be a member of the Junior National Basketball Team, and she was crowned Mexico’s Tae Kwon Do Junior National Champion. In college, she participated in track and field, where she became conference champion in the high jump, 400 hurdles and heptathlon and still holds several school records. She was captain of her college basketball team and was named Most Valuable Player in 2009 where she was also ranked #1 in the State of California, and 9th in the country as a heptathlete. She played professional basketball in Germany and Belgium and she is also an instructor for USA Track and Field teaching Level 1 and Level 2 across the country.

Rosario's knowledge of fitness, nutrition and training along with her ability to connect with people from all backgrounds is her greatest strength. Since she has been in the fitness and sports industry as a personal trainer, performance specialist and motivational coach/speaker for over 15 years; Her expertise on athletic performance, power training, balance/postural correction, sports medicine, speed training, weightlifting, and martial arts make her one of the best in everything she works with.

Rosario has since worked as a strength and conditioning coach at Schurr High School, Cal State University of Long Beach, and UCLA. She also worked as a Track and Field Coach at Whittier College, specializing in multi-events and hurdles.Rosario has spent several years now as an Elite Athlete and Ambassador for the ASICS brand and corporation. She has been in several ASICS training commercials, and has input in future training developments within the brand and science base shoe design.

Rosario has high expectations for all her pupils as well as for herself and lives everyday day life with a purpose. She wants to radiate and transfer knowledge to her clients and athletes on how to become the best they can be as well as providing the tools needed to become more than average. Rosario's philosophy on training is train with high intensity, train smart, you can't train hard if you don't properly recover, no excuses for feeding your body, soul and mind.

"History is making a positive difference in someone's life each day I am alive," she says. "I believe that is my purpose in this world and a higher power has given me the strength, support and opportunities to continue seeking this gift. I am thankful."

HEAD COACH/OWNER

Jenna Stark

HEAD COACH/OWNER

Head Coach/Owner Jenna Stark has been CrossFitting for six years, and her specialty is getting people excited about training early on in their journey. "I find what makes that person get excited, and then they thrive on seeing progress in what their body is capable of!" she says. "It’s about making training fun in the process so that the gym seems more like one big game than a workout!"

Jenna was offered 13 college scholarships to play softball, and chose to play for Texas A&M, where her team was ranked 4th in the country. She came to CrossFit as a way to train during the softball off-season and kept it up after graduation. "Transitioning out of your sport to regular life can be really hard for a lot of elite athletes, so having a place to put my competitiveness and also get that team and locker room feel was really amazing to me," she says.

Alicia Domercq

COACH

Coach Alicia Domercq has been CrossFitting for seven years, and she brings her 12 years of experience as a gymnast and 14 years as a coach to DRS Athletics. In addition to specializing in gymnastics, Alicia is also a black belt in Krav Maga, which she’s been training in for 10 years and teaching for eight.

Alicia started CrossFit after moving to North Carolina and trying unsuccessfully to find a Krav Maga training center. "I had heard a lot about CrossFit and how the intensity in the training was something familiar to Krav Maga," she says. "I love that someone can be having a bad day and come in and through the training and the coaching and community, their entire mindset, attitude and energy can change. The members do that for me as well. I love seeing success in movement - even the smallest accomplishment."

Her favorite quote is "When you have clarity of intention, the universe conspires with you to make it happen."

COACH

Jason Spalding

COACH

Coach Jason Spalding has always been passionate about being athletic and fit. He became a coach to share his knowledge with others. "CrossFit is not only about working out and being fast/strong/tough, it’s about the community that it builds," he says. "To be able to have daily conversations about things that will not only make us healthy, but lengthen our lives so that we get the maximum potential, that is the reason I got into coaching."

Jason was a track and field athlete and football player in high school, and he’s competed in a Tough Mudder and two Spartan races. He’s a huge movie fan, especially old horror films and foreign/Kung Fu movies. "The more action or corny graphics, the better," he says. "So if you would ever like some really bad references, please let me know, and I would love to give you a couple to watch."

His favorite quote is "If you’re not first, you’re last." – Ricky Bobby

James Gonzales

COACH

Coach James Gonzales specializes in CrossFit and helping others. "The thing I love most about being a coach is seeing my athletes achieving their goals on a daily basis and being consistent," he says.

In 2011, James was looking for a complete health lifestyle change, embarking on his own weight loss journey. That's when he had found his passion for fitness. Losing a total of 75 pounds and 20% body fat within one year of strict dieting and exercise, he had a complete new outlook on life.

In 2015, James wanted to try out something new and that would challenge him even further. That's where he found his love for Crossfit at DRS Athletics. The coaches and members have changed his life in ways he never thought of. That's when James decided he wanted to take part in the Coaching Education Program. He wanted to help others reach their fitness goals and strive to be the best version of themselves they could be.

Outside of work and training James loves to travel, often spending time in New York, his home away from home. He likes to try new restaurants, likes to shop and attend live shows - concerts, live theater and is also a big gamer.

Tyrus Trevino

FITNESS/SPORTS PERFORMANCE INSTRUCTOR

Tyrus Trevino

FITNESS/SPORTS PERFORMANCE INSTRUCTOR

Physical activity and sports have always played a central role in Ty’s life. As a youth, he immersed himself in every sport possible. Baseball, basketball, and football were his preferred sports, but he simply loved to move, so when he was not on the field or court, it was skateboarding, biking, soccer, cross-country, and monkeying around at the jungle gym that took up most of his time. Ty grew up in a beautiful Northern California town, Redding, which is surrounded by mountains, valleys, and lakes. This landscape acted as a playground for Ty and his friends, so the opportunities to use his fitness were fruitful. Much of the relationships he built and maintains to this day can be credited to his active lifestyle and involvement in sports, so for that, he is forever grateful.

Ty’s passion for sports transcended into his young adult years, as he was fortunate enough to spend two years playing collegiate baseball, as a pitcher at the JuCo and NCAA DIII levels. While Ty was fulfilling his dreams by playing college baseball, he learned that he had passions outside of playing sports. Thanks to a wonderful learning climate and amazing professors at Whittier College, Ty found a new passion for research and scholarship! As much as he loved playing sports and being active, he also loved sciences, and was just as enthralled by the idea of understanding the the mechanisms of sport and physical activity, as they relate to health, performance, and well-being. Moreover, he wanted to increase his understanding so he could apply it to help develop young athletes and to help enhance the quality of life for anyone who wishes to grow. Ty’s goals are to obtain a doctorate in social/health psychology, to become a university professor/researcher, and to do his part in helping to make the world a better place!

Ty was introduced to crossfit style training in May 2016 and never looked back. He loves how crossfit training inherently teaches you to embrace your strengths, to own your weaknesses, and to focus on moving well. Ty also loves how his coaches at DRS reinforce proper movement above all else, and feels that they have helped him grow tremendously as a person and athlete. His favorite part about crossfit is how inclusive the community is and how well the programming adapts to all ability levels. To Ty, there is nothing more awesome than looking to your left to see a 50-year-old school teacher catching a snatch at depth with tension, and then looking to your right to see a 14-year-old kid pushing him/herself to a limit they never thought imaginable, all the while developing the confidence to pursue anything they want in life. He is not sure of any other place on the planet where such a sight is an everyday occurrence. “It is truly beautiful!” he states.

“There is no wrong way to be yourself” - Dr. Perry Nickelston
